Her innate regal bearing almost makes Schwarzkopf's rise to the top echelon of world divas feel somehow like an inevitability. Her diva brand was built around a philosophy of the great artist always in service to serious art, never in service to herself. This gave her an unapproachable, imperious air at times, but she was ever a purveyor of impeccable taste, cooly understated.
